Here is my latest wine review for the Central England Co-Operative’s “We like Wine” campaign. This time I’ll be reviewing a Vouvray white loire wine from Domaine des Perruches in France.
This is a French wine from the Domaine des Perruches vineyard in Vernou – made with Chenin Blanc grapes. On first impression the wine is quiet sweet. I don’t normally like sweet wines, however I feel this is an exception because it has some lovey tangy and citrusy notes.
It’s suggested to enjoy with meats, fish, seafood, poultry and desserts. Although I feel this would be better suited to enjoy on its own or with canapés. The strong flavours will overpower the flavours from a main meal in my opinion, so enjoyed simply by itself is what I would recommend.
The wines appearance is pale in colour and it doesn’t taste too heavy either - so best enjoyed when chilled thoroughly on a hot spring or summers day.
Although I said I don’t feel this would be suited for a main course, if I had to pick something it would have to be a dish that’s not too heavy. Maybe a white fish dish or light pasta with parmesan would suit best. Something like my Lemon Pepper Fish Recipe would work well.
The Vouvray is 11.5% in strength which helps strike the balance just right with this wine. Any weaker and it would lack body and any stronger it would be too overpowering with the citrusy flavours that are going on.
This is also a good value wine. It’s priced at approx. £8.50 at my local Co-Op and I feel it’s worth every penny. It’s well presented, explodes with intense aromas when poured and delivers a fresh and fruitful experience when drunk. This is certainly a wine I would recommend for entertaining if you’re looking for something to keep your guests, and yourself happy!
