Today for the Central England Co-Operative’s “We like Wine” blog, I’ll be reviewing the Hereford Tempranillo/Malbec. It’s an Argentinian 2014 red with lots going on!
This wine is very dark in colour and when poured is bursting with plum and berry aromas. The wine also delivers these flavours when drunk along with a little bit of tang as well. It would be fair to say this is definitely a full-bodied wine with plenty of flavours and a nice long finish.
This is one of the few reds I feel would go well with cheese, other than that, traditional red meats would be another dish that would complement this wine too. Because of its body, you may find smaller dishes will go better with this, otherwise you may be left feeling rather full afterwards!
I can taste lots of red fruits in this wine which will make it a good match for aromatic foods. If you’re cooking with lots of spices or sweet ingredients, this Hereford would definitely compliment your dish well. Something like my Sweet and Sour Chicken Stir Fry would be a nice change from beef to enjoy this wine with due to its ingredients and sweet pineapple flavours.
This isn’t a wine I would recommend in the height of summer (or when it’s hot) because of its long finish. In hotter weather you would probably appreciate something a little lighter, so this is perfect for Autumn through to Spring.
Currently you can get this wine for £7.49 at the Co-Op which I feel is definitely fairly priced for what you’re getting. It’s 12.5% in strength and well balanced with its flavours. It’s a good all-rounder that most lovers of red wine are likely to enjoy.
I would definitely like to try more Hereford wines after the Tempranillo/Malbec and I feel this was a good one to start off with.
