If you’re a bit of a baker and you’re looking to buy a food mixer, then hopefully my review of the Scraper Mixer Pro by Sage and Heston Blumenthal will come in useful.
The food mixer comes with a number of attachments. Including a dough hook, beater, scraper beater, a wire whisk and a splash guard. To add to that, the stainless steel bowl has a 4.7 litre capacity and comes with a handle.
The machine has quite a few features that other food mixers out there don’t have. For example, you can hide the cord into the machine if you find it’s too long, and it also has a speed gauge on the side so you know what the best speed is for different types of whisking and beating. The machine also has a countdown timer which means you can set it to do its job for however long you need (and whatever speed you need) and after that time it’ll stop and beep to let you know it’s done.
For my review I wanted to test it with a couple of different things, starting by making a basic sponge mixture. After adding the Sugar and Butter to the bowl, I put it up to the correct speed (according to the gauge on the side of the machine) for light beating. As the machine whirls up, if you set the timer, it’ll keep going until it gets to the end, otherwise it’ll do a count-up timer so you know how long it’s been going for.
The problem you can sometimes have with food mixers, and especially if you’ve not got that many ingredients in there, is it doesn’t combine thoroughly because some of the ingredients get stuck to the edge of the bowl. However, the Sage food mixer comes with a scraper beater, which is essentially a flat beater with a spatula attached to either side. It does a great job of scraping all those residue bits of ingredients off the edge of the bowl into the mixture.
So all in all, the Scraper Mixer Pro did a pretty good job at making my sponge cupcakes.
I also gave the whisk attachment a quick test by making a basic meringue with some Egg Whites and Sugar. It did a pretty speedy job and made some nice stiff meringues at the end as well.
So, would I recommend the Scraper Mixer Pro? Yes, I probably would, because it actually comes with some great features that a lot of other food mixers out there don’t actually have. Things like the countdown timer and the illuminating gauge on the side to let you know what power setting to use and when. Finally, it also comes with a good few attachments whilst still being cheaper than other food mixers out there, which in my opinion, also makes it good value for money.
