Anyone who knows me knows I love tea. The British Science Association even revealed the science behind making the perfect brew. With that in mind I’m really excited to share my latest product review for the Sage Tea Maker. Can it make the perfect cuppa?
The Sage Tea Maker is a variable temperature kettle that’s primarily designed for brewing loose tea. It has a stainless steel tea basket which lowers itself into the boiling water for the amount of time you specify.
The kettle has a number of pre-sets depending on the type of tea you’re brewing and how strong you like it. You can tell the kettle how long you’d like the tea to brew for (how long the basket needs to stay in the water) and to what temperature you want the water to come to.
There is a max capacity of 1.5 litres (if just boiling water) or a litre if you’re brewing tea. What’s great about this kettle is it can be easily removed from the base and it’s mostly made of glass so you can see what’s going on inside.
To make loosely brewed tea the kettle comes with a handy guide that shows how much tea you’ll need for how many people, and what temperatures/brewing times different teas need. Tea leaves are poured into the basket which is then easily attached to the inside of the kettle magnetically.
Once the kettle is loaded and you’ve chosen a pre-set (or manually set the kettles temperature and brewing time), the kettle will start boiling up. Thanks to a thermometer inside, the kettle shows the current temperature on the display as it increases. Once the kettle has reached the specified temperature, the basket will begin to lower into the water for the specified brewing time (this is counted down on the kettles display).
Once finished, the basket of tea leaves will be raised back out of the water. There is a beep to let you know the tea is ready and a timer will begin to let you know how long the tea has been sitting there.
This is definitely at the higher price range for a kettle so will be best suited to someone who really appreciates a good cup of tea. It boils up nice and quickly and I must say, I love the mechanics behind how it brews the tea.
Furthermore, it has a few other handy settings, like a “Keep warm” setting and an auto-start setting if you want to set the kettle to brew a cup of tea for when you wake up in the morning. It can also be used as a regular kettle to just boil water without the basket.
