You can cook asparagus in a number of ways, the key though, is timing, and knowing how long it takes so you don't overdo them. If you're trying to find the best way, or simply a new method to cook asparagus, you're in luck, as there are many methods included here on how to cook asparagus.
How ever you choose to cook your asparagus, be sure to prepare it as follows:
Remove the brittle ends of the asparagus (and dispose of) then rinse the other ends under cold water. How you remove the ends is up to you, you can either snap or slice them off.
Now, click on one of the cooking methods below on how to cook asparagus:
Considering how little time it requires, the easiest way to steam asparagus is by boiling up some water in a pan and placing a colander on top. Once the water is boiling, put the asparagus in the colander and place a lid on top.
Using this method, you only need to cook the asparagus for between 2-5 minutes and that will be dependant on how much you're steaming. Keep checking it regularly because if you end up overdoing them, there's no turning back!
You can mix loads of flavours into asparagus if you decide roasting them is how you'd like to cook them. Simply lay the asparagus out into a dish or baking tray and drizzle with a little oil, salt, pepper, and maybe even some garlic.
Cook for 10-15 minutes on 200c and make sure you keep checking on them to see how they're getting on.
Prepare the asparagus in the same way as if you were roasting them (drizzle with oil and add salt, pepper and garlic if this is how you'd like to enjoy them) and place on a grill pan or baking tin.
Cook for between 3-5 minutes under a pre-heated grill - turning half way between. Be sure to keep a close eye on them as you don't want to over cook the asparagus.
If time is of the essence, you can cook asparagus in the microwave. Simply place into a dish and add 1 tablespoon of water per 6-7 pieces of asparagus. Cover tightly with cling film and cook on high for between 1-2 minutes. I can't stress how important it is to keep checking the asparagus when using the microwave, as you can easily over cook it in an instant!
