  • 1kg Ham/Gammon Joint
  • 1 White Cabbage
  • Potato (to serve)

Directions

If you’re looking for a meal native to the Emerald Isle, then you must try my traditional Irish Bacon and Cabbage recipe. A must is to serve this recipe with boiled Potatoes to make it a fully authentic meal from Ireland.

  1. Get a large saucepan big enough to hold the Ham and Cabbage. Place the Ham into the pan and fill with cold water until covered.
  2. Bring the pan to simmering point on the hob and remove any salty foam that appears on the surface of the water. Replace the lid and leave to simmer for 1 hour.
  3. In the meantime, prepare the Cabbage by cutting into strips then rinsing under the tap. Then set aside.
  4. After 60 minutes, carefully place the Cabbage into the pan with the Ham and simmer for a further 20 minutes with the lid off.
  5. After 20 minutes, remove the Bacon joint from the water and Cabbage and slice into small steaks.
  6. Drain the Cabbage and serve onto plates. Place the Bacon on top and serve with your favourite Potatoes.
