Bacon and Cabbage Recipe
- 1kg Ham/Gammon Joint
- 1 White Cabbage
- Potato (to serve)
Directions
If you’re looking for a meal native to the Emerald Isle, then you must try my traditional Irish Bacon and Cabbage recipe. A must is to serve this recipe with boiled Potatoes to make it a fully authentic meal from Ireland.
- Get a large saucepan big enough to hold the Ham and Cabbage. Place the Ham into the pan and fill with cold water until covered.
- Bring the pan to simmering point on the hob and remove any salty foam that appears on the surface of the water. Replace the lid and leave to simmer for 1 hour.
- In the meantime, prepare the Cabbage by cutting into strips then rinsing under the tap. Then set aside.
- After 60 minutes, carefully place the Cabbage into the pan with the Ham and simmer for a further 20 minutes with the lid off.
- After 20 minutes, remove the Bacon joint from the water and Cabbage and slice into small steaks.
- Drain the Cabbage and serve onto plates. Place the Bacon on top and serve with your favourite Potatoes.
